Alaska's Winter Horizon

Alaska's Winter Horizon

Sunday, April 4, 2010

On this Easter day, we did something that we have not done since we arrived here in February, we didn't leave the room! We both were a little worn out from constantly staying on the run, so a day of rest seemed like a good idea. As far as today's weather, it was a chilly, overcast day with temps in the upper 30's most of the afternoon. These continuous days around 40 have started to erase the blanket of snow around many areas of town. This picture from yesterday shows a sidewalk bearing the effect of the thaw. It is far from gone however, as this picture of a baseball field shows. It will still be a while before they throw out the first pitch. The conditions in shaded areas like on the trail are similar. This picture of me yesterday out where we saw the moose, also shows that winter isn't quite gone in Alaska.
